Split Train Station

There are two train stations in Split. Most passengers board or arrive at the main station in Split located in the city centre. Still, there is an option of boarding or arriving at one more station called Split Predgradje, locally known as Kopilica station. Below is the list and a detailed guide on how to get to each station and which one to choose.

Split Main Train Station

Split Main Train Station is where most passengers board or arrive when travelling to Split by train. The station is easy to spot as it is located next to the bus station and the ferry port. There are many facilities available in and around the station.

Location and getting there

Main train station is located a 5-minute walk from the Old Town and the promenade Riva. Right next to it is the main bus station and the ferry port. Getting to the train station is easily done by car or city bus. The city bus stop is located right across the main bus station. Most bus lines operated by Promet Split make a stop here including lines 2, 2A, 3, 5, 5A, 8, 9, 11, 15, 17 and 18. A single ticket is valid for 45 minutes and costs 11 HRK (~€1.40).

Since all means of transportation use this location as a departure and arrival point, often crowds are expected, especially in the peak-season. Walking to the train station is recommended if you don’t carry too much luggage, since most of the main historical sights such as the Diocletian’s Palace are located nearby.

Both the interior and exterior of the main train station give out the fact that the station offers basic facilities for passengers and requires some improvements. Here is the list of amenities travelers can find within Split main train station:

  • Ticket Counter
  • Information Center
  • Toilets
  • Informative Display
  • Kiosk
  • Bakery
  • Fast Food
  • ATM and Exchange Office
  • Luggage Storage

All the signs in the lobby are written in both Croatian and English, so passengers should easily navigate through. Note there’s no lifts or escalators, which is important for anyone carrying a lot of luggage. The station has benches both outside and inside where passengers can wait for the train. Cafes, restaurants and grocery stores are all nearby the station, and if looking how to pass time, Split Old Town with its main sights such as the Diocletian’s Palace and the Cathedral of St. Dominus are just a few minutes away. If arriving in Split during the summer months, popular city beach Bacvice is about 2 minutes away from the station.

Split Predgradje is locally known as Kopilica Station which serves as an alternative station located in the northern part of Split. Passengers whose travelling destination is located closer to this station can choose to board the train or arrive here instead.

Location and getting there

Split Predgradje is located close to the North Port of Split, about 10-15 minutes from the city centre and the main train station. Getting to the station is easy by car or city bus. The bus stop is located right across the railway, in the direction of South. Here stop several bus lines including 2A, 3 and 14, as well as line 7 at the bus stop 5 minutes away from the railway.

Split Main Train Station and the city centre is also connected to Split Predgradje station with the only metro line in the city

You will find a small yellow building at the station, there you have a few basic facilities such as:

  • Ticket Counter
  • Information Counter
  • Toilets

This station doesn’t offer many amenities to the passengers. Kopilica belongs to the industrial zone of Split, so not much facilities can be found around the station either. You can find several cafes nearby and the closest grocery store Konzum is located about 600 m away.

Train Station to Bus Station

For anyone continuing their journey by bus, here are the details on how to reach the bus station from each train station.

The main train station and the main bus station are two buildings next to each other, so passengers can easily continue their journey by bus.

From Split Predgradje, passengers can reach the central bus station by car or a public transport. Bus lines that connect these two stations are no. 3 and no. 2A

There is a metro line going from Split Predgradje station to bus station. However, if you are arriving to Split by train, you will eventually end up at the main train station. Therefore, taking a metro from Predgradje to Bus station makes sense only if you are already in the city and wish to avoid taking the public bus.

Train Station to Airport

For those leaving or arriving in Split by plane, here is the information about connections to train stations. Since Split Main Train Station is located next to the main bus station, passengers can reach or arrive from Split Airport by taking a shuttle bus. It departs every 30 minutes in both directions and a one-way ticket costs 30 HRK (~€4). The journey to and from the airport usually takes around 30 minutes but it can take longer during the summer months.

From Split Predgradje station passengers can reach the airport by public transport. Bus line no. 2A connects Split Airport and the main bus station for city buses, making a stop right across the railway in Hercegovacka street. A single ticket costs 17 HRK (~€2.20) and the journey takes around 40 minutes, depending on the traffic.

At Split Airport, the city bus stop is located on the closest road, right in front of the terminal building, about a 2-3 minute walk from the entrance.
