Split main railway station

The famous Yellow Train brought first Czech tourists to Croatia

This year’s first train of the leading Czech carrier RegioJet, which will operate on the route Prague – Brno – Bratislava – Budapest – Zagreb – Rijeka or Split until the end of September, has successfully arrived at the railway station in Split. Among the passengers are numerous Czech, Slovak and Hungarian tourists, as well as RegioJet CEO and owner Radim Jančura.

More than 300 tourists from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary arrived by train on Saturday afternoon at the Split railway station, which is the largest group of tourists arriving together to this city and according to that, we can say that the tourist season has officially started!

Tourists took a train from Prague on Friday, and Croatian Ambassador to Prague Mirjana Pancirov said at their reception in Split that this year had been declared the European Year of Railways, emphasizing the importance of Croatia’s contribution. Czech tourists traditionally come to Split-Dalmatia County in large numbers, which is confirmed by the fact that all tickets for this first train to Split were already sold out.

Start of the season in accordance with epidemiological measures

Tourists were greeted at the railway station by the Director of the Directorate for the System of Tourist Boards, Categorization and Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Monika Udovičić. She pointed out that the relevant ministry is ready for the tourist season for which preparations have been made as part of the “Safe stay in Croatia” project.

She noted that there are currently more than 300 points in Croatia for testing guests for coronavirus and that, as of now, in some counties, more than 50% of tourism workers have been vaccinated, which is an important message to guests.

Tourism support – organized transport of tourists by train

The President of the Management Board of the Croatian Railways (HŽ), Željko Ukić, pointed out that organized tourist travel by train gives support to tourism. According to him, this year HŽ focused on Split in order to connect it with Central European cities.

He announced that the Prague-Split train will run three times a week in June and September, and daily in July and August. He also said that a seasonal train has been agreed with the Slovak and Austrian carriers, which will start on June 19 this year, and that Split will be directly connected to Vienna and Bratislava with trains running twice a week. At the same time, a seasonal train Budapest-Split will start in July.

Ukić pointed out that the night train Zagreb-Split and four day lines Zagreb-Split will start running on June 25, reminding that in the last 30 years there have been no such seasonal trains from Central European cities to Split as is the case this summer.

So far, RegioJet has sold more than 30,000 tickets for this year’s trains to Croatia, while more than 1,000 new tickets are sold daily. Many Croatian destinations will be available to passengers because special bus lines will run from the railway station in Rijeka, Split, Gračac and Ogulin, which will connect all major holiday destinations on the Croatian coast, from Istria to Dubrovnik. Passengers are offered a free breakfast for the price of the ticket, internet connection, the possibility of booking the entire section with beds for four people, bicycle transport and more.
